Max Schumann (Executive Director of Printed Matter Inc., New York) in conversation with David Senior (Head of Library and Archives, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art – SFMOMA).
Printed Matter is a New York-based non-profit organization that has supported artists’ publications for over 40 years. It plays a decisive role in nurturing an international community of artists, designers, and writers through the distribution of books as well as through regular public exhibitions and programming in their space. Another important component of Printed Matter’s program is the New York And Los Angeles Art Book Fairs. These fairs have become an essential gathering spot for Printed Matter’s broad audience and a place where an international community of artists/publishers can see themselves. Max Schumann and David Senior will discuss the current conditions of artists’ publishing practices in contemporary art and the role of the art book fairs in fostering distribution networks for this thriving and expanded field of publishing
